WELCOME BACK TO THE BLOG! It surely has been awhile since I last posted and I am very sorry about that. But, we’re back and we have a spicy new product review for you today!
Our friends over at Auxbeam were generous enough to send us TWO of their best 50″ LED light bars for us to have and review. So, big thank you to them and be sure to check them out after you’re done reading today’s post.
So, let’s start with what exactly we were sent. The first light bar is a 50″ 288W CREE spot & flood straight LED light bar with 5D Projector lens. This light bar will be going on my 1988 Jeep Wrangler YJ and only costs $115. The second light bar is a 50″ 288W LED curved CREE spot & flood combo beam light bar with 5D projector lens. This light bar will be going on my 1993 Jeep Cherokee XJ and only costs $118.
Both of these light bars came with a pair of mounting pieces that can be used to attach to an assortment of different brackets including the bumper and windshield. They were also sent with full wiring harness’ which is a HUGE plus because a lot of companies do not include the wiring harness with their lights.
However, no window pillar brackets were sent, which is expected when only ordering the light bars, so you will need to order them. The Cherokee 50″ bracket is a 2 piece set and mounts on the upper part of the windshield. The best part is it will only cost $18.99 to purchase. The YJ 50″ bracket on the other hand is also a 2 piece set but mounts on the entire side of the windshield. The cost to purchase these brackets is a satisfying $34.19. The most attractive thing about Auxbeam is their prices. They’re simply unbeatable. For the same brackets anywhere else you’re looking at a $150 price tag at least. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Cheap price must mean it’s a cheap product. I can tell you from personal experience that all of Auxbeam’s products are built to last. I have not had a single issue with any of their light bars and I think you’ll be very happy with any purchase made from Auxbeam.
As I’ve seen before with Auxbeam, the switches are not that nice, but they are simple to install since they just stick to a surface. I personally prefer the LED rocker switches. These switches come in many different colors and really add that custom touch to anyone’s Jeep. It would be nice though, if the wiring harness that comes with the light bars was setup to allow for simpler conversion to a different switch. The wires leading to the switches are very thin and are not ideal for putting new connectors on and the plug for the switch lead does not have standard connectors. So, if you’re going to use the existing switches that the light bars will come with you’ll be just fine. However, if you’re like me and want a better switch, it will be a little difficult to do change but not impossible. A different switch lead that allowed for plug and play with an LED rocker switch would be great.
It does looks like Auxbeam has 2 LED rocker switches available, “LED LIGHT BAR” and “LED WORK LIGHTS” only in Blue. I plan to ordering ones online that say “ROOF LED LIGHT BAR” in blue and red. They are also much cheaper on ebay. Maybe that’s why Auxbeam doesn’t really offer them. It does look like the toggle switch that Auxbeam offers includes “switching lines”, but I’m not sure that these will just plug into the harness that they provide. It would be nice if it did.
The last thing I want to point out is no instruction. There are no instructions/suggestions on how to connect the wiring. I do want to point out that the majority of lighting companies will NOT include installation guides or instructions with their products. It looks like the only connections are red and black wires to connect to the light bar, and red and black wires to connect to the battery, which seems simple enough. My concern with connecting it this way is that the lights will turn on any time even if the key is turned off. I would prefer that they only turn on when the key is turned on. To do this I think I’m going to need to figure out how to rewire the relay that is already wired into the harness they provided. If you’re not someone who knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to wiring or just general under the hood work, this can be very intimidating and difficult to do. I plan on writing up a install guide to help those of you who may not know what to do. I will also be posting a YouTube video explaining how everything is hooked up, as well as showing the power of the light bars.
Overall, you can’t beat these light bars from Auxbeam. They’re affordable, durable, and reliable. What else can you really ask for? Again, BIG thank you to Auxbeam for sending me these light bars and allowing me to review them. Keep an eye on our social media pages for when we post our install guides and also our YouTube videos!
